The PWD full form is Public Works Department. It is an Indian agency of government that oversees the construction and maintenance of various public infrastructures and utilities. There is one central agency in India responsible for managing all public service operations, and that agency is called Department of Public Work.
Each state has its own PWD with its own set of geographically dispersed Divisions, Sub-Divisions, and Units. It appears that many Indian states, including Arunachal Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Kerala, Mizoram, Punjab, Rajasthan, have its own PWD. The departments’ responsibilities are the same in every country.
The Indian military has a long history of doing this type of study. By the middle of the 19th century, a subset of the Indian Civil Service had taken on the role of overseeing public works.
