What Is The Full Form Of PCOD?

The PCOD full form is polycystic ovary syndrome. It is the medical term for PCOD. In women with polycystic ovary syndrome, the ovaries produce eggs that are either not fully developed or are only partially developed. Over time, these eggs mature into cyst in the ovaries, but a rise in male hormones triggers the development of multiple follicular cysts in each ovary every month. This disrupts ovulation, leading to anovulation.

Though PCOD affects a sizable percentage of women, few understand the disorder, its consequences, or how to treat it. Let’s take a closer look, then.

Symptoms

Women’s physical and emotional health might be negatively affected by PCOD symptoms. Some 34% of women with PCOS also experience sadness, and almost 45% experience anxiety. Given the prevalence of PCOD, early detection and treatment are crucial for avoiding complications down the line.

Quick facts

Premenstrual dysphoric disorder affects roughly one-third of women globally.

The presence of PCOD does not prevent a woman from becoming pregnant. Women can get pregnant with minimal medical intervention and pharmaceuticals in roughly 80% of cases.

Having PCOD is not life-threatening, and it is treatable with dietary changes.

The symptoms of PCOD are less common and less obvious than those of PCOS because PCOD does not generate many of male hormones.
