The Indian Farmers Fertiliser Cooperative Limited (IFFCO) is a multi-state cooperative society that was established in 1967. It is one of the largest producer of fertilizers in India and also the largest fertilizer cooperative in the world. The organization was created with the goal of providing farmers with the necessary inputs for agricultural production, such as fertilizers and pesticides, at affordable prices.
IFFCO is a federation of around 36,000 cooperative societies, which includes primary cooperative societies, state-level federations, and district-level central cooperative banks. These societies are spread across India, with the majority located in rural areas. The organization has a strong presence in many states in India, including Gujarat, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, and Madhya Pradesh.
The main function of IFFCO is to produce and supply fertilizers to farmers at reasonable prices. The organization operates several fertilizer manufacturing units across India, and produces a wide range of fertilizers, including urea, diammonium phosphate, and complex fertilizers. IFFCO also provides farmers with other inputs such as seeds, pesticides, and agricultural equipment, as well as financial services through IFFCO Kisan Sanchar Limited (IKSL).
IFFCO also plays a key role in the development of rural India, by providing employment opportunities and supporting the growth of small and medium-sized enterprises in rural areas. The organization also conducts various training programs, workshops and seminars to keep farmers updated with the latest farming techniques and technologies.
In recent years, IFFCO has been expanding its business beyond India, and has established a presence in several countries, including Nigeria, Egypt, and the United Arab Emirates. The organization also has a global trading arm, IFFCO Trading and Services Limited (ITSL), which imports and exports fertilizers and other agricultural products.
