What Is The Full Form Of EWS?

EWS’s full form is Economically Weaker Sections. The term EWS refers to certain individuals or families whose income is below a specific limit. However, there may be other financial aspects that decide the economic status of a household/individual, but income is the major factor for that. In recent years, the Government of India has declared a 10% reservation quota for general category people. Also, EWS certificate eligibility is not limited to the annual income aspect. There are numerous factors required for an EWS certificate like property, annual income, residential flat, etc.

What is the Eligibility criterion for applying EWS certificate?

One can apply for an EWS certificate if they fulfill the following requirement:

  • He or she should have less than five acres of agricultural land.
  • A person’s household annual income is below Rs 8 lakh.
  • He/she should not belong to reservation categories such as ST, SC, and OBC.
  • He/she should have a residential plot area smaller than 100/200 square feet.
  • The flat residential area is less than 1000 square feet.
