“CGL” stands for “Combined Graduate Level Examination”. It is a competitive examination conducted by the Staff Selection Commission (SSC) in India for recruitment to various non-gazetted posts in the government sector. The examination is open to graduates with a Bachelor’s degree from a recognized university.
The Combined Graduate Level Examination is held annually in three tiers: Tier-I, Tier-II, and Tier-III. Tier-I is a computer-based objective test consisting of multiple choice questions on General Intelligence and Reasoning, General Awareness, Quantitative Aptitude, and English Comprehension. Tier-II is also a computer-based objective test consisting of multiple choice questions on Quantitative Abilities, English Language and Comprehension and Statistics. Tier-III is a descriptive test in English or Hindi and is a qualifying test for the post of Junior Statistical Officer (JSO) only.
