RLWL stands for “Remote Location Waitlist”. It is a type of waitlist for Indian Railways train ticket reservations. When all available seats or berths on a train have been booked, additional passengers can still book tickets through the RLWL waitlist.
RLWL is used for passengers who are boarding the train from a remote location along the route of the train. These are locations that are not the starting point or the final destination of the train, but are intermediate stations. For example, if a passenger wants to travel from Station A to Station D, but the train starts from Station B and ends at Station E, then Station A and Station D are considered remote locations, and tickets for those stations will be put on the RLWL.
The RLWL system allows for more passengers to travel on a train, as tickets can be issued for remote locations that may become available as passengers cancel their reservations. However, passengers on the RLWL waitlist have lower priority than passengers on the regular waitlist, which is known as the “General Waitlist” or “GNWL”. This means that the chances of getting a confirmed ticket through the RLWL waitlist are lower.
When a passenger books a ticket through the RLWL waitlist, the ticket will have a specific RLWL number. This number will move up or down depending on cancellations and availability of seats or berths. If the RLWL number reaches the confirmed ticket status before the day of the journey, the passenger will be able to travel on the train. If the ticket remains on the waitlist, it will automatically be cancelled and the passenger will not be able to travel.
