The full form of DRDO is the Defence Research and Development Organisation. It is an agency of the Government of India, charged with the military’s research and development, headquartered in New Delhi, India. The organization was formed in 1958 by the merger of the Technical Development Establishment and the Directorate of Technical Development and Production with the Defence Science Organisation. It is under the administrative control of the Ministry of Defence, Government of India.

The organization’s major products include the BrahMos cruise missile, the Akash surface-to-air missile, the Astra beyond-visual-range air-to-air missile, the Nag anti-tank guided missile, the Prithvi-II and Agni-I and Agni-V intermediate-range and intercontinental ballistic missiles, the Dhanush artillery gun, and the Arjun main battle tank.
DRDO also collaborates with other government agencies, academia, and industry to achieve its objectives. It has also established a number of centres of excellence to promote research and development in specific areas, such as the Centre for Artificial Intelligence and Robotics, the Centre for High Energy Systems and Sciences, and the Centre for Propulsion Technology.
