Thane City's first college was K.G. Joshi College , which opened its doors in 1969. To better fulfill Thane's educational requirements, its founding fathers, headed by the late Sir V.N. Bedekar, a healthcare professional, were filled with idealistic zeal.
Dr. Bedekar & his colleagues began their work with an elementary school and a missionary spirit. More than 15,000 students are served by the Thane educational institutions founded by Vidya Prasarak Mandal.
The institution is only a short walk from Thane Rail Station on their Central Railway line, making it an ideal location for commuters. It is easily accessible by public transportation to all parts of the city, including Navi Mumbai.
In January 1988, the College was granted permanent affiliation, effective from June 1982.
