University of Petroleum and Energy Studies is an autonomous university, also known as UPES, located in Deharadun, India. It was established in the year 2003 by the state legislature of Uttarakhand under the UPES Act, 2003. The university is a member of the AIU (Association of Indian Universities) and it is approved by the University Grants Commission (UGC). Apart from this approval, it mainly accredited by the NAAC with Grade 'B`, International Accreditation Council for Business Education ( IACBE), the Department of Scientific & Industrial Research, and the International Association of Universities.

It has been ranked 1^st by the Education World and known as the best academic-industry alliance among private universities, ranked 21^st for the law by the week in 2020.
