Punjab Technical University or PTU which is renamed as the I. K. Gujral Punjab Technical University (IKGPTU) is a university that is administered and funded by the state government. It was built to promote courses like engineering, management, and medicinal education in the state of Punjab. It was founded with the motive to set up technological influence and promote training and research centers in areas within and nearby Punjab. PTU was started in 16 January in the year 1997 by State Legislature act. In order to become a candidate of PTU, one needs to qualify for the joint entrance examination, especially for B.Tech.
After its establishment, PTU has increased its coverage as it administers nearly 300 colleges in and around the state of Punjab. The university provides undergraduate and postgraduate courses in almost every technical field and is aiming to provide doctoral degrees in every field as well. PTU is progressing with time and has nearly all the modern-day facilities.
