Mizoram is one of the Seven Sister States (of Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Manipur, Mizoram, Nagaland and Tripura) in North-Eastern India. They are promoting innovative ideas, maintaining the quality of prospectus, providing approval to setting up new colleges and institutions and protecting the autonomy of state institutions. The government implements the Right to free and Compulsory Education Act to ensure that children within the age range of 6 to 14 years complete elementary level education.

So, the concept of learning has developed rapidly in Mizoram. In the past few years, students used to migrate to comparatively developed countries and states to avail higher studies in the specific fields. Mizoram's private schools use English as a medium of instruction at the elementary level while the government-run schools mostly accept Mizo medium. On the other hand, English is used as a primary medium at higher-level studies.

In the past, the Mizoram’s government has adopted the new right, which further states that every children deserve education regardless of their financial and cultural aspects as per the RTE. The government of Mizoram has ensured that every child must get free educationin the state. It doesn’t matter if the child is under the  BPL.

It has been accredited Grade 'A'by NAAC. The university secured a position in the top 100 universities across India for the years 2016 to 2019.

More than 30 colleges are affiliated with Mizoram University. This university is ranked as 67th place in the category of universities for NIRF 2020. It is a public institution of higher education in Aizawl and is recognized by the UGC & the AICTE. It offers programmes in Information Science, Management, Economics, Mass Communications, Earth Sciences and Natural Resources, Medical and Paramedical Science, Fine Arts, Humanities, Engineering. Besides this, it offers certificates, diplomas and executive programmes.
